Lead Consultant Psychologist and Senior Gender Specialist
Dr Penny Lenihan is a senior gender specialist and the Lead Consultant Psychologist/ Head of Psychology at Charing Cross GIC within the NHS, where she has worked for over 15 years. She has been working with transgender clients for over 20 years privately and within the NHS. She is codirector of Platypus Clinical Services Limited and runs a specialist clinical placement training programme within the NHS, delivers professional training courses for organisations and provides professional supervision (group/1:1). Dr Lenihan is a British Psychological Society Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow, an HCPC registered Counselling and Practitioner Psychologist, a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), a member of the British Association of Gender Identity Specialists (BAGIS) and she is also included on HM Government Gender Recognition Panel’s list of specialists in the field of gender dysphoria.
Dr Lenihan provides specialist psychological assessments and follow-up sessions including reviews for endorsement of hormone therapy, reviews for endorsement of all types of gender surgeries, psychotherapy, expert court assessment reports and specialist reports for legal gender recognition applications. She also has a specialist interest in autism and is a professional member of the National Autistic Society.
Dr Lenihan aims to deliver a personal professional service ensuring clients feel well supported, fully involved and informed, throughout all aspects of their care. If she endorses trans clients for hormone therapy, then they will be referred for a medical appointment on site with the highly skilled and experienced medical team, to take this forward as appropriate. For surgical referrals, a full report will be provided to the client’s chosen surgeon. Onsite consultations can also be arranged if required, for most types of gender surgeries.
