Electrolysis

Electrolysis is still the only proven permanent method of hair removal and many Transgenders have benefitted from this tried and trusted treatment.

Electrolysis FAQ’s
  • What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is a safe, effective, progressive and permanent method of removing unwanted hair. It remains the only method legally allowed to claim it offers truly permanent hair removal for all skin types and colours and all hair types and colours.

With the choice of 3 methods of Electrolysis available, there is something to suit all.

  • How does Electrolysis work?
A fine probe (about the size of an eyelash) is inserted into the fair follicle where a tiny burst of energy is targeted at the root of the hair. This burst of energy prevents nutrients feeding the hair and the hair becomes weaker and finer. After repeated treatments the hair is no longer able to grow and complete hair free results are obtained.

Each hair requires repeated treatment because each individual hair has its own growing cycle and blood supply. Electrolysis work by weakening the hair and eventually destroying it. Results take a little time, but, just like dieting, it’s not the crash diet but the healthy eating plan that works in the long run.

  • Is the treatment painful?
The level of sensation experienced throughout your treatment will vary greatly upon several factors: mainly your hair type, location and your individual pain threshold. Often patients find the first treatment to be the most uncomfortable, as they are uncertain as to what may be expected. As part of your initial consultation, a test patch will be carried out for you to familiarise yourself with the sensation of electrolysis and allow you to become acquainted with the treatment. A benefit of having the procedure at LBPS is local anaesthetic injections, which can be administered by our Electrolygist to particularly sensitive areas in order to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. Following treatments are often much more comfortable as the hairs begin to weaken.
  • How many treatments will I need?
Electrolysis is a progressive treatment and the only truly permanent method of hair removal. The amount of treatments will depend upon the cause and size of the hair growth. It is important to follow the treatment plan as advised to obtain the desired results. As the hairs become finer, the treatments can be further apart.
  • How will my skin look after the treatment?
Following treatment it is normal for the skin to look pink and feel warm. It is important to follow the after-care advice given.

Laser Hair Removal

The Soprano laser is the state of the art in laser hair removal providing virtually pain free, hair reduction and is suitable for most hair colours, all skin tones and even tanned skin.

Laser Hair Removal FAQ’s
  • What are the advantages of Laser Hair Removal
The advantages of the award winning Soprano laser is that treatment is very quick – treatment times are short – small body parts take between 5-15 minutes, while larger areas will take around just 30 minutes. A course of treatments will be necessary and the number will be discussed at the time of treatment. However most people will require between 4-6 treatment sessions.

There is no downtime after treatment with the Soprano laser – you can resume normal activities immediately.

  • Is the treatment safe?
Hair reduction is one of the aesthetic medical industry’s most well-known and researched use of lasers. The Soprano laser has provided permanent hair reduction for thousands of patients worldwide, safely and successfully since it was cleared by the FDA in 2005.
  • How many treatments will I need?
A number of factors affect the success of a course of hair removal treatments, but in general, after each treatment, you will notice a permanent reduction in the number of hairs that regrow in the treatment area. Normally, it will require 4 – 6 treatments or more to permanently reduce the number of re-growing hairs by more than 80%, six months after the last treatment.
  • Will my hair ever grow back?
No – once the hair follicle is damaged, it cannot grow new hair. However, there will always be a few hair follicles that manage to partially escape the laser during each treatment. Some of these follicles may be only stunned and will need to be retreated.
  • Is there any recovery time?
There is no recovery or downtime – you can return to normal activities immediately.
  • Is it painful?
No – the majority of people find the Soprano laser very comfortable. Pain tolerance is subjective, but many patients often describe the sensation as soothing as a “hot stone massage.”
